AP RECOMMENDS - JANUARY '23

Read Time: 3 minutes

First things first – everyone at Active Profile wishes you a very happy new year! We’re bringing the much-loved AP Recommends back for 2023, and as it’s January, we’ve centered our recommendations around becoming better versions of ourselves – professionally and personally. Let’s get into it….

Scrap your long list of New Year’s resolutions

Hear us out. We are all for having a few strong goals to achieve in the year, but trying to change every imperfection isn’t achievable. Try to set yourself a handful of career or personal objectives that you can really focus on to better yourself.

Give away your unwanted gifts

Whether it’s a Lynx gift set or an unwanted jumper, don’t throw your Christmas gifts to the back of the cupboard or in the bin – one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Donate them to a local charity shop or jump on Vinted to make some extra cash.

Events

Got a goal to network or to do some public speaking this year? The annual calendar is already filling up with events and opportunities, here are a few of our favourites:

Digital City Festival 2023

Held in Manchester, Digital City Festival is a great event to network and learn from others in the digital community. There are no speaker announcements yet, however, we do know that the events will be tackling and discussing some of the biggest challenges facing the digital and tech sectors. The event spans across the 27th-31st March and tickets are completely free. We’ll see you there.

Liverpool Tech Climbers List Reveal

If you didn’t know, at Active Profile we work with BusinessCloud and TechBlast, as well as a portfolio of other partners to run Tech Climbers. This initiative recognises and celebrates rising businesses in the tech industry through an annual publicised list. We’re holding the Liverpool Tech Climbers List Reveal on the 9th of February at Love Lane Brewery. The event will build up to the live reveal with an evening of talks and networking opportunities. We’ve still tickets available, here.

Activities

Yoga with Adriene

Yoga with Adriene is a great way to start up a healthy habit for free. Whether you’re a beginner or intermediate, Adriene’s teaching makes it an enjoyable experience that you’ll want to come back to each day. The 30-day journey offers a different theme every day and most sessions are under 25 minutes. Plus, her dog Benji regularly makes an appearance for an extra bit of motivation.

Winter sun

Nathan brightened up his January blues by jetting off for some winter sunshine earlier this month. If you’ve got the annual leave to spare, we recommend switching this cold weather for the golden rays.

TV

Sometimes we just need to chill on our couch to rest, relax and recharge. Here are a few TV series and films we’ve been loving this month:

The Traitors

The Traitors’ is a competition where 22 strangers work together in a series of challenges to build the cash prize up to a potential of £120,000. The twist? “Traitors” mingle amongst the group, gaining their trust in the daytime and killing one member under cover of darkness. Each day, the group has the opportunity to catch and vote out a traitor. If they succeed, the finalists will take home the money, however, if traitors remain, they’ll steal the lot. If you’ve already watched the series, you’ll be happy to know that BBC has uploaded the US season to iPlayer (and it’s just as good).

Happy Valley

Who doesn’t love a good crime drama? Without giving too much away, Happy Valley centres around a police sergeant in the Yorkshire Valleys. Her life at home is complex and often blends into her professional career, making cases personal. After six years, series three made a return to our screens on New Year’s Day and concludes the ongoing story that surrounded the first two series. The season has had us hooked and can be found on iPlayer, as well as the first two.

Films

The Swimmers

A biographical film that follows two Syrian sisters who brave the choppy Mediterranean seas to seek asylum in Greece, and then go on to compete in the Olympic Games. An inspirational story that’s guaranteed to have you blubbering into a pillow.
