AP recommends - February '23

Read Time: 2 minutes

February has been busy for the team at AP. We kicked off the month by hosting the Tech Climbers List Reveal Event for Liverpool City Region, and we’ve continued that pace across a whole portfolio of client projects.

Outside of the agency, major moments including LGBTQ+ History Month, as well as the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria have shaped the media we've consumed as a county. In light of this, this month's recommendation piece highlights pieces of content, events and charities that spotlight and support the LGBTQ+ community and the Turkey/Syrian earthquake.

Events

One of our biggest recommendations for a business would be to have an EDI policy within the workplace. Creating an inclusive policy is so important and has even been proven to increase the attraction and retention of a wider talent pool within the workplace. Most suited to HR, EDI and members of LGBTQ networks, Stonewall is hosting a conference on Friday 17th March around LGBTQ+ inclusion. The day will include interactive workshops, inspiring talks and plenty of networking opportunities. Find out more information and get your tickets, here.

Workshops

For anyone looking to get into marketing, The Fearless Academy offers accessible workshops and skills sessions to those who are looking to upskill in digital marketing. We went to one of their sessions earlier this month to discuss agency life and give them more information about our roles. Their next cohort starts on 13th March, head to their website for more information and to apply.

Movies and TV series

Disclosure

A must-watch documentary on Netflix, Disclosure amplifies the voices of trans creatives and thinkers, as they share their perspectives on the damage Hollywood has caused through its depiction of the community.

Carol

Romantic and subtle, Carol follows two women who explore an instant spark in 1950s New York. The story brings light to the 1950s closet, as well as the social norms and consequences that the lesbian community faced through an unexpected love affair.

It’s a sin

Recommending for the people that live under a rock - ‘It’s a Sin’ follows a group of friends that refuse to live and love in fear of AIDs. Highlighting the neglect and devastation around the AIDs epidemic, the series will leave you sobbing into your pillow whilst putting out an important awareness message about HIV treatment.

Books

Diversify

Spotlighting marginalised groups, Diversify offers case studies and new research that makes you recognise and take ownership of your unconscious bias. A must-read to improve the way we learn, work and live.

The secret lives of church ladies

Love a short story? We do too. Nine stories follow four generations of Black women as they battle conforming to society and its double standards, in order to feed their own passions.

Charities

DEC

Action and donations are still needed to support the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. 54,000 buildings, including schools and hospitals, have been destroyed, with 18 million people affected. The DEC (Disaster Emergency Committee) provides urgent aid, including healthcare, shelter, clothes and food to those who need it. Find out more and donate today to help the cause.

Stonewall

Stonewall is a charity that has driven positive change for the lives of the LGBTQ+ community, ensuring they’re represented in schools' curricula and the workplace. There’s still plenty more work to be done around transforming public opinion and policy. Find out more on how to support the charity on their website.
