AP Recommends – litter picking, Halloween highlights and bumper month of events

Now that autumn is well underway and pumpkins are flooding our social media timelines, this time of year is filled with industry events before the inevitable wind down to Christmas. But before we start swapping pumpkin spice lattes for mulled wine and mince pies, here’s what we’ve been up to recently, as well as some ones to watch in November…

Picking up litter instead of pumpkins

Earlier in October, we ditched our desks for a couple of hours and headed out with litter pickers in hand to help tidy up some of the streets surrounding our new office in the Baltic Triangle. With our hi-vis jackets in tow, we managed to collect a whopping 15 bin bags full of discarded rubbish from around the area in just two hours.

The Baltic Triangle is known for its sense of community, and we enjoyed being able to give something back. But this is no flash in the pan event, we’re making this a regular thing and would love other businesses in the area to join us at our future litter picks.

We’ll be pounding the pavements with our pickers again on Friday 12th November, so if you’d like to join us, please get in touch.

Pulling our socks up

Following our success last year, Active Profile once again took part in ‘Socktober’ to support a local charity close to our hearts.

In 2020, we donated 58 pairs of socks to the Whitechapel Centre in Liverpool, as well as raising £116, and so we have decided to challenge ourselves to do even better this year. So far, we have raised £200 and donated 96 pairs of socks! It’s not too late for you to get involved, visit the Socktober website here or contact a homeless shelter near you to find out how you can offer support.

Team yoga

There were team activities a-plenty in October, including a visit to new local yoga studio, Yogacita. After an hour of stretching, channelling our breathing and challenging ourselves in some new poses, we also enjoyed some well-earned relaxation time. We arranged a private class and loved every second – we’d definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a wellbeing activity for your team.

Events season:

As mentioned, there’s plenty of events taking place at the moment, both online and in person that we’re looking forward to over the coming weeks. Here’s a selection of our ones to watch…

Merseyside Development Update

Hear all about the latest development updates and market intelligence from across the Liverpool City Region at the ‘Merseyside Development Update’ event. Featuring a wide range of industry expert speakers, including our client Phil Mayall, board director at Muse Developments who will be talking about town centre regeneration projects in Wirral and St Helens. Starting from 8am on 3rd November at the Crowne Plaza in Liverpool, this can be joined in person or virtually. More details and tickets available here.

EG’s Future of Liverpool

The spotlight is certainly on Liverpool in November, with EG’s event set to include interesting discussions from industry experts on what’ s being done to ensure the city’s continued growth and success.

With exciting opportunities in health, life sciences and transport, what will this mean for the Liverpool City Region? Two of the speakers are none other than our client, Avison Young’s Jonathan Lowe and Stephen Cowperthwaite . This is not one to be missed on November 4th from 10am. Register to join the event, here.

FFT bowling party

FFT Liverpool is back with another great, in person event at one of Liverpool’s hot spots, PINS Social Club on Duke Street. Kicking off at 5:30 PM on November 11th, members and non-members are welcome to join for food, drinks and networking. Tickets range between £20+VAT and £25+VAT and include two drinks, food and two hours of unlimited bowling. Book your place here

Question Time Manchester

Not forgetting about Manchester, if you’re interested in the future of the city region, then look no further than this open forum event being hosted by Place North West on November 22nd from 6PM, bringing together senior leaders from both private and public sectors from inside and outside the city, discussing the forces shaping Manchester its role in the north. Tickets available here.

But outside of the office, here’s what we’ve been getting up to this month…

Movies

This is a no brainer – if you’re struggling to get into the Halloween spirit, struggle no more and watch everyone’s favourite witches in this classic – Hocus Pocus. Available on Disney Plus, there is nothing not to love about this 90s masterpiece.

For something new (and slightly terrifying) why not try Halloween Kills – the latest in the Halloween franchise has dropped in cinemas and the hype is real. On at most (if not all) cinemas now.

Pumpkin picking

Is it even autumn if you don’t have pictures of you and your friends and/or family in a pumpkin patch on social media? We have scoped out some suggested patches for your strategically placed pumpkin pictures. The Pumpkin Patch Hightown is open for business with lots on offer including the obligatory pumpkin picking, a ‘maize maze’ and ‘pick your own sweetcorn’. With no booking required, no fee or packing charges, Hightown is a yes from us.
