Meet the team - Dean Frear

Read Time: 4 minutes

Meet Dean, our Senior Digital Marketing Executive. A key member of our digital team, he spends his days delivering the best results for our clients through the likes of carefully crafted ads, emails, and landing pages.

DEAN! TELL US ABOUT YOUR ROLE...

I work in the digital team which covers a little bit of everything and - although it sounds like a cliche - within my role here, no two days are the same! From crafting copy and creating designs for ads to managing email campaigns or analysing performance data, there's always a lot to keep me busy when it comes to delivering for our clients.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO marketing & YOUR ROLE?

I sort of stumbled into marketing when I finished my degree in business. I was looking through a long list of graduate schemes that all sounded awful to me, so I decided to go back and get my master’s in marketing, which was actually my favourite module at undergrad level. While I was finishing my master’s, I got my first full-time role in the industry, which was at a restaurant management group, and the rest, as they say, is history...

What’s one of your biggest achievements while working at AP?

I'd say it's overseeing the development of the Tech Climbers website. Although we made some improvements to the site twelve months prior, we always knew we would have to go back and continue to develop the brand.

We’d thrown a lot of ideas around in meetings about how the site should look and sound - so with the help of our very talented content and design teams, we were able to come up with a complete reskin that made the site look the part.

Tell us a highlight from your time at AP...

The Barcelona trip is easily a major highlight of working at AP so far! It was just such a good trip from start to finish and to one of my favourite cities in the world. I’d been here for just less than a year at that point and was one of the newer people on the team, so it was a great chance to get to know everyone outside of a working environment.

What’s your favourite thing about working at AP?

The team is what makes AP what it is, for me. On those days when you just aren’t feeling like heading into the office,  knowing you’re going to be with genuinely good people who you can have a good laugh with makes it so much easier. On top of that, the team is made up of loads of really talented people, so I always feel like I’m learning from someone.

What would be your death row meal?

I’ll start with some sui mias and salt and pepper chicken wings before moving onto a main course of steak (medium rare, obviously) with king prawns and some tenderstem broccoli, please.

I’d also love 6 Kinder Buenos for dessert if that could be arranged...

Embarrassing moment?

Accidentally scranning half of my colleague Jem’s salad that she’d brought into the office in front of her.

In my defence, we all have lunch together on a Tuesday and it was right by where all the communal food was. It was an innocent mistake, but it makes my insides shrivel up whenever it gets brought up.

Favourite song on your playlist?

At the minute it’s 'Tried Our Best' from Drake’s new album, purely because of recency bias, however 'Through the Wire' by Kayne has to be up there as an all-time favourite.

How do you spend your weekends?

I’d love to lie and say I’m really active and do all kinds - but I’m dead lazy at weekends and tend to just watch 5 or 6 games of footy, as well as seeing my mates and family!

What’s a favourite place you’ve visited?

Boston! After being there for two days, I was already trying to work out how I could make the move over the pond. An amazing city!

What’s one thing people might not know about you?

I did a summer of coaching in America in 2017. I originally flew over to coach football but ended up coaching sports like golf and tennis as well.

Football coaching is something I love to do though and I’m currently in the process of volunteering at a local junior football club, which I’m hoping to start soon.
