My First 3 Months: Hannah Wilkinson

Read Time: 2 minutes

At the start of 2022, I found myself in the unfortunate situation of being unemployed after leaving a new position after only 10 weeks. Having always had positive work experiences, it was clear early on that this environment was not going to be somewhere I could work. The role left me anxious and having serious self-doubt in my ability within an area I had spent years working towards and aspiring to be a part of.

Also due to the pandemic, my CV consisted of short stints in different jobs, albeit still within PR across various sectors. Although I saw all these roles as great learning experiences, where I acquired a variety of skills across the PR and Marketing spectrum, employers didn’t always see it this way.

Instantly, Active Profile was different. They did not question my job changes or treat it negatively. They understood my situation and instead they asked me about my experience, what I knew, what I could do and what I wanted to learn.

From day one I have been supported by my team, Nicky, Amy and Megan. Nothing was too much; I was encouraged to ask questions and I wasn’t expected to know everything after just one week. I was given the tools to learn and achieve the tasks I was set. My work has been reviewed constructively and pointers are given on how to improve next time as well as, most importantly, how to achieve this improvement, something that few employers make the time to do. Praise is given often, which is encouraging and gives me confidence knowing I am on track.

That’s another great thing about Active Profile, they respect flexibility. Hybrid working is encouraged, with regular zoom meetings in place to keep teams connected and communication afloat. Yet, office days are also encouraged to enable us to regroup face to face. And with an office like ours, why would not you want to go in more often! The quirky space in the Baltic Triangle reflects the creative industry and is a genuinely lovely place to spend the working day. Most importantly the fridge is always stocked with diet coke. . . and any alcoholic drink you could desire (for after-work drinks of course!).

Something that many businesses boast about is employee benefits, but very few follow through with offering them. It is noticeable that Active Profile cares about their employees from big gestures, (hello a holiday to Barcelona!) to simply providing parking permits so that coming to the office doesn’t cost staff unnecessarily. They are constantly reviewing, evolving, and improving to benefit their teams.

Though perks are great, for me after such a negative previous experience that really knocked me, working in a place where the people are friendly, supportive, and always willing to take the time to answer questions, is imperative. I always feel supported, I know if I’m struggling someone will be there to help and no one is ever too busy to chat through something, all these things ultimately allow me to deliver great work and feel happy doing so.

Though it’s only been three months, I feel like I’ve been a part of Active Profile for much longer, and I’m excited to see what the future holds for both me and the company.
